There is a new NI Community group centered around expanding the new LabVIEW Interface For Arduino (LIFA). This is a toolkit centered around deploying LabVIEW code to Arduinos. I see this new FREE toolkit becoming very popular because it combines the incredible power of graphical design in LabVIEW with the low cost hardware of Arduino. Check out the LabVIEW Interface for Arduino community group for information on how to download the toolkit, setup procedures for the Arduino hardware, and also great getting started examples.

GE Energy needed to quickly update and expand a 12-year-old functional test system. They decided to build a project team with a core of certified NI LabVIEW and NI TestStand Developers and Architects to minimize development time and ensure a scalable and supportable system update.

Although they had not previously used National Instruments software, the team chose LabVIEW and NI TestStand because they could train new users on the tools quickly and cost-effectively, making it feasible for multiple engineers to gain the skills necessary to support the tester.

The management team needed to hire someone who could both architect a solution in LabVIEW and lead the project team. After evaluating several candidates based on these criteria, the team selected David Hakey, an  NI Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA). The CLA certification gave the GE management team confidence that Hakey had the LabVIEW skill level and the project management background necessary to move quickly to develop a scalable tester.

Hakey recommended an approach for the test system with an automated testing mode for normal use and an interactive testing mode for debugging. Shortly after finalizing the design, he began the search for additional team members to help implement the test system. While many candidates spoke of LabVIEW experience on their resumes, it was the LabVIEW and NI TestStand certifications that indicated to him that a candidate truly had the skills and knowledge to be successful.

I've been wondering about how to do combine the "fit control to pane" tab control property and the tab control content. Most of my project based on subpanel rather than using tab controls, because positioning the Tab controls content at every panel resize event, is not a good and elegant solution.

Community member GriffinRU has a great example on programmatically transferring data from Excel to LabVIEW. Transferring data from a cell to LabVIEW can be done a number of different ways but GriffinRU's take on copying the information to a LabVIEW Front Panel Table object and also maintaining the cell formatting is nice. I can't tell you how many times I had to go back by hand and change the formatting by hand after moving information from Excel to LabVIEW.

Check out GriffinRU's example on From Excel To LabVIEW With Style.
